Most existing diets promise to solve issues which exist in other diets. Some diets promise to help build muscles, other diets’ goal is to help people lose weight. Not all of them are equally effective, simple and easy to be on.
No matter what diet you choose to follow, they are all based on eating solid foods and require you to chew the food you take. It is true that foods like meats are harder to chew and digest, but even if you are on a regular vegan diet, your digestive system will use massive amounts of energy to process fruits (especially dried fruits), vegetables, and nuts.
Without going too far into different diets, let us focus on what liquid diet benefits are. Here is the list in no particular order:
Benefit #1: Easy on your jaw and teeth
Can you imagine how much energy you need to actually chew your food and how much money you then actually pay dentists to “fix” your teeth? By consuming your food in a fully or mostly liquid form you can avoid all those troubles. Moreover, because you do not have to use your teeth to chew that food, you are not wearing them out and from that point of view you can be stress free knowing that your teeth are in a constant relax mode. This means no more issues because of stuck food rotting inside of your mouth or a chipped tooth needing an expensive dental procedure.
You can often hear people saying about the use of muscles: “If you do not use it, you lose it”. This does not work the same way with your teeth. It can only happen if your teeth are in a horrible state, in which case by not eating you are only speeding up the process of their removal, which is then often followed by a new set of teeth growing if you abstain from solid foods for long enough. When your teeth hurt isn’t this a signal that you should give them a break?
Benefit #2: Liquid diet is easy on the digestive system
There are many studies showing that digestion takes an enormous amount of energy. The harder it is to chew and digest the food you eat, the more energy it takes to process and extract all the useful nutrients from it. Opposite to when you are on a solid meal diet, when you consume your food in a liquid form, you simplify things for your digestive system, your stomach and intestines do not need to work as much to process all your food. Blenders, juicers and mixers do all the hard work for you.
Benefit #3: Eliminates the use of junk food
Is it possible to put a few cookies, a cake, a burger, and other fast food items into a blender and expect to have reasonably well tasting smoothies? I doubt it, you cannot do this, at least if you try you will find out what I mean. This automatically eliminates all the bad stuff you hear about, like sweets containing artificial sugars and hyper processed foods such as french fries and pizza. It is also much harder to eat excess amounts of fat if you mostly consume liquid food. Think of the blender as if it was your mentor for whether you should buy an item in the supermarket or not. If it is blendable – give it a go, if it is not, then probably it would not be good for you even if you eat it in a solid form.
Benefit #4: Liquid diet keeps you hydrated without much effort
Similarly, when talking about the need to remove or severely limit the use of junk food, you can hear a lot of discussion about how important it is to stay hydrated. Guess what, eating all your food in a blended form automatically means higher liquid/water consumption, which is good. Like the name says, a liquid diet automatically means higher water consumption than on a regular diet.
Human body is roughly 80% made out of water, all fruits and vegetables are mostly water too. However, most heavily processed, dehydrated, cooked, baked, deep fried foods lose this water ratio. Benefit #5: You are automatically pushed to consume more fruits
In some countries fruits and natural fruit juices are often labeled with “1 of your 5 a day”, which basically means 1 of your 5 fruit portions a day. I am not trying to impose a vegan or a fruitarian diet on you, but if major supermarket chains put those labels on their produce, can this make you consider going on a liquid diet just because of the great tasting and vitamin-rich smoothies which you could have every day? Smoothies and all liquid soups consist mostly of fruits and vegetables. You can start with a semi solid diet for beginning.
Benefit #6: Good quality water is not free nowadays
Long gone are the times when the whole world was an ecological paradise with crystal clear springs of drinkable water. Due to the fact of living in cities and needing to use a central water system, it is almost impossible to find the purest water out there. In most places it is not a good idea to drink tap water and in some places it is even extremely dangerous. There are some places left, especially more rural and mountainous areas like Scotland, where the tap water is not as bad as in other places. However, the water quality even there is often still far from what we would like to see it.
Good news is that by consuming plenty of fruit and vegetable juices or smoothies you are also drinking the purest water you can find on the planet. Juice is similar to distilled water, however regular distilled water is considered to be “dead”, whereas juice is “living” water with added vitamins and other valuable substances. You do not need to buy a distiller or ever be concerned about what kind of water you drink if you switch to juices and smoothies instead.
Benefit #7: It is simpler and cheaper
Being on a liquid diet you do not have to think as much as to what to eat every day. It is quite a monotonous and boring diet, consisting mostly of soups, smoothies and juices. To prepare them all you only need is a juicer and a blender. You also save a lot of time and energy on this diet, because blending food is quick, so is making soups. You do not have to wait hours to have your complex meals cooked in an oven.
Another liquid diet benefit is that it is usually cheaper than a regular diet. Simple smoothies like orange + pineapple + coconut water do not cost much. You can fill your stomach with the most nutritious foods for a comparatively cheap price. Simplicity is often the key, the simpler your diet, the more useful it is. Our ancestors did not have steaks or lasagnas baked in an oven every day. Fruits and vegetables do not need any processing, because of this they are usually much cheaper than common foods such as good quality meat, fish or cheese.
